Open helmets with wide brim, aka kettle hat  was very popular head protection, used by less wealthy infantry, as well as knights.

Kettle hut has its skull in form of a usual bascinet and slightly open brim. The ridge goes through the skull and front part of brim.

Kettle huts of this type were very popular pattern, which we can see on numerous iconographical representation from 2nd half of 14th cent. and 15th cent.

For example: Great Chronicle of France (~1370), Poliptych from Grudziadz ca. 1390.
